Poster 1: An eye in the sea!

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

Activity

This is the first poster for Design 101 class assessment in the first half-semester.

Thoughts on Haiku From the start, my view has vaguely pulled out a sunrise on a winter night. However, as a Designer, stick to one thinking will only put a limitation on knowledge and experience; they should aim for different forms as well as their reflections. Choices to make So I draw out there words to represent the haiku better - Light - the fundamental element, represents creation, power, authority - Liberate - a beautiful name to every mistress, represents freedom, will, determination. - Hope - a strong feeling, represents expectation, wishes, desire.

All three words are limited to geometric shapes to represent; I roughly sketched three different forms and compositions for all three. Also, every detailed knowledge about the poster will be jacked down so I could have a better understanding of what to choose out of nine, and it was the creation "Light" that fits well for my first poster.

Technique and making process At first, drawing was my first choice since it can quickly be done and fixed. However, the image quality would rather be poor and broken, so I sort out by drawing sketches to aim for perfect form and composition for the poster. It was a complicated process where the sign could be placed with many styles and layout like detachment, contrast, transparent, touching, area, union, subtract. I tried many to see what works and what not to my taste and then asked for feedback from different groups of people.

Final poster

In the end, I put feedback into categories and derive similar opinions to help me choose what the best set is, and I notice that it was rather opposite from my first thought. After that, all I need was sit on my chair, and work on the digital painting for better quality.

Here is my final result

P/S: Really enjoy making this with all the giving knowledge in Design class and extra readings ^^
