Title: An eye in the sea

Technique: Digital Photoshop

An eye in the sea is an image created by Tuyen Nguyen during his time at Design 101 at Auckland University. He started to understand the forms and composition of Design there. This poster was his first creation in 2020 that pull out the vision of an eye, looking down to a deep dark sea to see its reflection.  However, the observation seems to be bigger yet, a contrast image of him, which represents his inner stage. To most people, dark or black represents the negative feeling and evil; on the other hand, designers see it as positive as they are creation, a mark of doing. Thus, Tuyen took out that inner cognition to brings out a different feeling to his audience, to deliver the messages of bad and good, sometimes, are decided by you, so be confident and follow your belief.

Second Poster: Movie Poster

Title: Genesis

Technique: Digital Photoshop

Genesis is a movie poster work by Tuyen around his time at the University of Auckland. He put the idea of a priest who got obsessed with Christianity that he bows to bring back the order in his chaotic world into the movie poster. The priest here could be represented by both Lucifer, a fallen angel, and Peter, a disciple of Jesus who willing to martyrdom like Jesus with the inverted cross. Tuyen wanted the inverted divine cross to present the fallen priest who walks against god will, at the same time, with the splashes of blood and blooded feathers draw proximity of a circle to lead his audience eyes into his movie concept.  Moreover, Tuyen applied his knowledge under the color management of characterization and calibration to create a better display of the movie theme, and more accurately capture to the color space.

Third Poster: Story

Title: Heaven gate

Technique: Drawing, Photographing and Digital Photoshop

Heaven Gate was the last poster for the first-half semester assessment in Design 101 at the University of Auckland, where Tuyen Nguyen, the designer, participated in 2020. He followed the haiku to create a twelve frames scene of him, trying to escape a tunnel. However, the stage developed from where the main character woke up, until his escape, was captured from different views angle. The view started with his vision, when he woke up. Then the close angle shot to him with the distant look of the light at the end of the tunnel. This represents the volume, the distance, inside the tunnel where our protagonist, is trapped inside. In contrast, the view angle, is now reversed in the next few frames, where Tuyen started running to the light. It indicates the place, where he is heading to will be opposite to where he is now,  whether it is wrong or right. Also, in the last frame where we are back to the eye with the tear, it is up to the audience to interpret that was our character's joyful tear or the sadness tear from his family.
