Poster 3: HEAVEN

Activity

This poster is the third poster for Design 101 class assessment in the first half-semester, which represents a 12 frames scene about a story with three concepts: Scene develop, Plot and Reveal.

Thoughts on Haiku

In the third poster, the Haiku has already displayed a beautiful view of sunrise light penetrates the spring night sky to bring back the warmth to the coldness, hope to the mistress. However, going with the original idea of the Haiku is not meant for this poster nor Design thinking where assumption needs to be challenged, problems need to be redefined (Rikke and Yu, 2020). Hence, a few more ideas also took part in considerations.

Choices to make

Usually, ideas are overwhelming in their ways because the end purpose could get more out of less, or something novel, or aesthetic considerations, or enhance something that already exists or even developing something entirely new (Devinder Sharma, 2018). As a result, slowly narrow down options; there are two ideas that stick out the most.

  • Triumphant of the weak: The story happened in 938 when the Vietnamese army won against mighty China at that time by using trap under the sea

  • Heaven gate: The story shows a man who woke up in a tunnel and runs to the light.

These two-story are created based on the word Light and Hope that came to my mind on the first poster.

Technique and making process

At this time, students in Design classes are challenged by the one-week deadline for the third poster, myself included, so I picked the quickest and way most straightforward way to meet the deadline - Photographing and Drawing. Then problems occur. I tried to pick up both stories. However, the first story seems to be too complicated to put in a 12 frames scene by having the plot need to be developed from how the traps were built, the strategy, the China army, others. So I pick the second story and pull it out by having frames of him waking up, running to the light, and the teardrop to either indicate:

  1. He was happy that he got liberated from the isolation/ stress.

  2. He went to heaven, and the teardrop was from his family.

Also, the contrast angle of him running is trying to tell that where he is heading to is either bad or good, it will still be completely different from his previous place. After having a thought, I started building up all the need materials then combine them into the final poster then post it up for classmates to judge as well to my roommates to see.

Final poster

In the end, I retouched the images and put them fit together in the excellent composition and shot angle for each frame. Here is my poster

P/S: It was not an easy journey like I thought it would but really proud that I have made it
